Hazelnut Vanilla Chocolate Smoothie

March 30, 2016 by Maja ∣ Delicious & Healthy by Maya

I usually make my breakfast smoothies very nourishing and satisfying, like this Hazelnut Vanilla Chocolate Smoothie. Thick, flavorful and smooth, will keep you full for at least few hours.

I use either soaked oats or buckwheat as a base. In this one I used rolled oats. I always soak them in water with some cider vinegar to start fermentation and enhance digestion. You have to do it a few hours prior to making the smoothies. I usually do it overnight.

Now for the recipe:

[recipe-foody]

Ingredients

1/2-2/3 cup oats
1/3-1/2 cup water
1 tsp apple cider vinegar

1 cup water
1/2 cup hazelnuts
pinch of Himalayan salt
4 dates
dash of vanilla
1 small banana
1 tsp maca powder (optional)
2 tsp cocoa powder

Method

1. Soak oats with water and apple cider vinegar for at least four hours
2. Now add all ingredients besides cocoa powder in the blender and blend until very smooth
3. Add cocoa powder to the half and blend until mixed
4. You can serve it with fresh fruits on top, some cocoa nibs, ground roasted hazelnuts, chunks of chocolate, coconut chips…you choose
5. Enjoy:-)

Great recipe☺I can’t have oats so I was thinking on using rice and millet flakes.
Would you soak those for 4 hours in apple cider vinegar?

      Hi Rachel!

Thank you so much!! Yes, you can easily substitute oats with rice or millet flakes but also you can use soaked raw buckwheat or buckwheat flakes. I would soak them all. the flakes same as in this recipe and check out my buckwheat parfait recipe for details of how to soak raw buckwheat groats.
